The Vendée Globe solo yacht regatta kicked off on Sunday

On November 8, one of the most difficult regattas in the world started from the French port of Les Sables-d'Olonne - the Vendée Globe, a non-stop round-the-world solo boat race.

Due to restrictive measures introduced due to the coronavirus pandemic, participants were required to undergo an eight-day quarantine before they could go swimming.

Among yachtsmen, the Vendée Globe regatta is proudly called the Everest of Sailing. This is due to the extremely difficult route that runs through climatic zones with extreme conditions.

The race is held once every four years, from November to February. During the regatta, participants must follow the path of the so-called woolen skippers of the 19th century and cross the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian oceans.

As one of the participants of the regatta, the skipper of the yacht Occitane en Provence Armel Trypon, notes, you need to be a little crazy to decide on such a difficult trip around the world, and even alone. However, for many yachtsmen, the Vendée Globe race is a lifelong dream. The last Vendée Globe record was set four years ago by French yachtsman Armel Le Cléache. He managed to circumnavigate the world in 74 days.
