In the waters of the Volga, not far from the city of Kimry, Tver region, the day before yesterday an oily spot was discovered, the area of which was about 5,000 square meters. m.
Currently, the investigative committee is searching for the ship, which probably leaked or dumped oil products.
The district authorities report that all necessary measures have been taken at the site of the leak to localize and collect oil products. The threat of further spread of chemicals has been eliminated. Yesterday, work was carried out to assess the state of the water area, detect the remains of pollutants and eliminate them.
On the fact of what happened, a criminal case was initiated under two articles of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation: Part 2 of Art. 247 - violation of the rules for handling environmentally hazardous substances and waste, and Part 2 of Art. 252 - pollution of the aquatic environment.
It is noted that this is not the only case of pollution of the waters of the Russian Federation. A few weeks ago, a leak of 500 liters of diesel fuel into the Angara was recorded.
