True Spirit is the story of 16-year-old Jessica Watson, who set off on a 210-day voyage around the world.
Netflix has released the official trailer for the film True Spirit. The film, based on real events, is dedicated to the solo trip around the world undertaken by Australian navigator Jessica Watson in 2009-2010. At the time of the trip, she was 16 years old - Jessica became the youngest person in history to sail solo around the world.
“When determined young sailor Jessica Watson sets off on a solo, non-stop, unassisted voyage around the world, many expect her to fail,” the film’s description notes.
In the new film, the role of Watson is played by Titans star Teagan Croft. The film captures the incredible challenges the brave navigator faced during her 210-day voyage, and also includes the story of her support from her parents and mentor.
The film is directed by Sarah Spillane, who co-wrote True Spirit with Rebecca Banner and Kathy Randall. The film also stars Cliff Curtis, Bridget Webb, Vivienne Turner, Stacy Clausen, Todd Lazance, Josh Lawson and Anna Paquin. The film is scheduled to release on Netflix on February 3rd.
